August/ 2019 Through connections and collaborations we’ve got much stronger. Linking in with a Communications Strategist, a Business Coach, and a Brand Strategist was vital. You need someone else to reflect and deflect with, to discuss your business and it must be someone you trust and someone that’s got your best interest at heart. Look at where we are now, and look out 2020. Q14. How did you find your People? Simple, I went to my network. I didn’t just engage someone’s services but I really took the time to get to know them. In this regard, I am the conduit for my members: collaboration is much more than just a one on one interaction. I connect members with each other and give them the opportunity to work with and help each other. Q15. You’ve mentioned 2 things that have stood out throughout this – “Give it a crack” and “Connection/ Collaboration”. I am passionate about and firmly believe we don’t dispel an idea. “Thou Shalt Not Kill An Idea”. Every idea is a good idea – some are better than others. Everyone has got their strengths, and there are no bad ideas – all points of view are worth considering. I always say “put yourself in the other persons moccasins” and that’s about their point of view. I love think tanks and brainstorming. I think that’s key to moving forward. I just grew up with the mentality that everyone has to pull together to get something done and that’s something that has stuck with me. Frogs! (Ok a Queensland expression) I have to recognise the people that come along who are just there for their own interests and not for the betterment of the network. Sometimes as the leader I have to take the hit, but “I put on my big size 13’s and get it done”. I want to make sure that authentic connections are being made but most importantly that women in business have a voice. WORDS BY N ATAL I E W I L L A C Y- S M I T H [email protected] beinc.com Q16. What are your priorities for the Network? Protecting my members. Sometimes I have to make the tough decisions and have conversations that I don’t want to have.
