August/ 2019 They work to up-regulate skin cell cycle, thereby improving radiance and skin glow. As we get older, our skin starts to slow down in a few ways. The skin on the surface does not turn over so quickly, leaving our skin looking dull (hello Vitamin A!). Internally, the amount of collagen decreases by about 1% each year after the age of 25 – gulp! This means that as the skin becomes thinner, it’s elasticity decreases too. Alongside this, our natural levels of hyaluronic acid decrease leading to skin draping we never had. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar in the skin that helps to retain hydration and moisture. So as the levels decrease, the skin begins to develop folds, become dehydrated and less radiant over time. Hence increasing collagen and hyaluronic acid levels will help to improve skin elasticity and radiance. Treatments which influence collagen production, whilst infusing hydration, are perfect to combat these changes. A well-proven treatment is micro needling, which has dozens of scientific studies to substantiate the results. Micro-needling stimulates collagen production by creating a controlled injury to the inner layer of the skin, such that repair with collagen is induced. During this same treatment, a nifty addition is to infuse medical-grade hyaluronic serum into the skin. This treatment is so supportive of skin function and strength. And best of all, the results continue to shine through months after a single treatment. Finally let’s talk about cosmetic injections. You either love them or are opposed. And this is okay. In Dr Giulia’s opinion, cosmetic injections are there to simply enhance features, not to change them. By softening lines, we are not trying to wipe out expression, your years of experience or who you are. Instead we are trying to AS WE GET OLDER, OUR give the skin a chance to replicate without being stretched and stressed. It is just a bonus that by relaxing the muscle movement, you inadvertently look more relaxed too. When it comes to dermal fillers, we are trying to support the skin by replacing lost volume so that the skin is again given structure. In addition to this, the hydration levels in the skin instantly increase, so that cellular communication is improved too. There is obviously the benefit of curves returning to areas where they were lost, and volume being restored once again. Whatever your feelings are about skin wellness, it is important to remember that it is more than a superficial improvement. Skin structure can be restored and SKIN STARTS TO SLOW DOWN IN A FEW WAYS... supported, hydration levels increased, and your skin health will be improved. And let’s face it, if you have a healthy glow, your mood, motivation and outward energy will shine too.
