MARIAN HOCKEY STORYLINES OFFENSE, OFFENSE, OFFENSE: The Sabres opened their 2013-14 season in dominating fashion, defeating St. Catherine, 5-1. Junior Amanda Waigand led the way with two goals and two assists while junior Amanda Alexander was convincing in between the pipes, stopping 31 of the 32 shots she saw. The win was the first on opening day in program history and the team will look to build on that in this weekend’s series on the road against Adrian. TOE-TO-TOE WITH THE BULLDOGS: Marian begins their NCHA schedule this weekend with a road series against the Bulldogs of Adrian College. Finishing second in the NCHA a season ago, Adrian returns three of their top players in Kelsey Kusch, Danielle Smith, and Alex Vallee. Kusch and Smith were All-NCHA selections last season, finishing with a combined 37 goals and 31 assists. Vallee was an All-American blueliner, finishing with six goals and 20 assists.
