During its current skid, Marian has averaged just 29.4 percent from the field, including 25.2 percent from three-point range. Marian opened the week with a stellar first half against Alverno on the road, taking a 39-28 lead into halftime after shooting over 54 percent (13-for-24) from the field. However, the Inferno, who were unbeaten at home going into the game, rebounded from a turnoverplagued first half and held the Sabres to just 25 percent shooting to storm back and outscore the Sabres 50-27 in the final 20 minutes to steal a 78-66 win. The Sabres failed to put a single player in double figures in a blowout at Wisconsin Lutheran last Tuesday before letting one slip away against Rockford last Saturday. A LOOK AT THE SPARTANS Aurora University enters Wednesday’s matchup with an 6-8 overall record, including a 5-4 mark in the NACC after winning five of its last seven games. The Spartans are coming off a 69-38 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran on the road, suffering a mere 31.4 percent shooting clip, including an 0-for-12 effort from three-point range in the defeat. Despite their previous showing, the Spartans rank second in the NACC in three-point percentage at 33.9 percent. Aurora boasts four players averaging in double figures, led by senior guard Shay Jenkins’ 15.9 points per game. Bethany Dorrington and Shannon Koski turn in 14.8 and 13.6 ppg, respectively, while Anna Roszkowski averages 11 ppg and a team-best 8.4 rebounds per contest. Dorrington also adds a league-high 5.5 assists per game. ALL-TIME VS. AURORA Marian and Aurora will be meeting for the 10th time in the all-time series with the Spartans holding a 6-3 edge. The Sabres have won two of the last three meetings, but the Spartans claimed a slim, 66-64, win last season on a last-second shot by Shay Jenkins. The Sabres battled back from 17 points down in the first half to take a seven-point second-half lead, but Jenkins salvaged a win with a dramatic buzzer-beater. SCOUTING THE EAGLES Benedictine University is looking to rebound following losses in three of its last four games. The lone win came against the Sabres back on Jan. 4, with a 74-60 triumph in Fond du Lac. The Eagles fell at Concordia Wisconsin last time out, 65-54, committing 19 turnovers, while shooting just 39.3 percent. Benedictine has been successful from beyond the arc, averaging a league-best 37.5 percent from downtown. The Eagles have also gotten it done at the foul line with a NACC-best 72.9 percent. The Eagles are led by junior guard Vincenza Ranallo’s 12.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Meghan Novak is the only other Eagle averaging in double figures at 12.4 ppg, while Briana Hamilton is knocking on the door with a 9.3 ppg average. Alanna Ferry turns in a team-high 3.5 assists per game to go along with 6.4 ppg. ALL-TIME VS. BENEDICTINE Marian and Benedictine will meet for the 13th time in the all-time series, including the second time this year. The Eagles hold a 9-3 series lead on the Sabres with wins in each of the previous three meetings, including their first win in Fond du Lac since the 2009-10 season when the two teams met earlier this season. In the 74-60 win on Jan. 4, Meghan Novak led the Eagles with 22 points, including her team’s final 12 to close out the game.
