Marian took a two-point lead into halftime before falling behind by as many as five points in the second half. The Sabres broke a 51-all tie with a 7-2 run over the final 1:43 before a CUC three at the buzzer provided the final tally. Emma Jarvey led the way for Marian with 16 points, including 14 in the second half alone. The Sabres shot 46 percent despite going just 1-for-5 from three-point range. A 40-26 advantage in points in the paint was the difference in the game as Marian was able to get to the rim almost at will. Sarah Albert went just 1-for-7 from the field, but made up for it with a 5-for-6 effort at the free throw line and converted her final four freebies down the stretch. TRACKING THE TITANS UW-Oshkosh enters Wednesday’s contest undefeated through its first 11 games of the season and ranked 21st-nationally according to the latest D3hoops.com poll. Last time out, UW-Oshkosh pulled off a narrow 58-56 home victory over St. Norbert on Monday to continue the program’s best start since 2005 when it won its first 15 games. The Titans stifling defense has been their staple, ranking eighth-nationally in scoring defense, while holding opponents to just 49.7 points per game. In the win, Taylor Schmidt led the Titans with 11 points, while Ashley Neustifter added 10. Schmidt currently ranks third on the team in scoring at 9.6 ppg, while Neustifter is fourth at 9.3. Despite their 11-0 start, the Titans surprisingly have just one player averaging in double figures, led by Sarah Stecker, who registers 11.1 ppg. Fond du Lac native Katelyn Kuehl isn’t far behind at 9.8 points and a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game. ALL-TIME VS. UW-OSHKOSH The Sabres and Titans will meet for the 10th time according to the Marian record books with UW-Oshkosh holding an 8-1 edge in the series and currently riding a six-game winning streak. The last time Marian recorded a win in the series was back on Dec. 21, 1992 when the Sabres squeaked out a 56-55 overtime win in Oshkosh. EYEING THE EAGLES Edgewood College enters the week with a 2-7 overall mark, including a 2-4 record in NACC play following two straight single digit losses to Aurora and MSOE. The Eagles were picked to finish sixth in the NACC after just missing the conference tournament despite a 10-8 league record in 2012-13. This season, Edgewood is allowing a league-worst 33.1 percent from three-point range to opponents. The Eagles are third in the league in free throw shooting at 71.7 percent. Mariah Hill leads three Eagles in double figures at 14.2 points per game to go along with a team-best 3.2 assists per contest. Rachel Pope is second on the squad with 10.6 ppg and came through with a buzzer-beating runner to defeat Benedictine by a point earlier this year. Courtney Spangler comes in at 10.1 ppg and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game. ALL-TIME VS. EDGEWOOD The Sabres and Eagles will meet for the 54th time in the all-time series with Edgewood holding the 32-21 edge entering Saturday. The Eagles are winners of three straight in the series following a 29-point Marian victory back on Dec. 8, 2011 in Fond du Lac. Prior to that, the Eagles had claimed the previous eight meetings. However, the biggest difference from last year has been the increase in makes and efficiency. The Sabres are averaging 8.5 makes on 22.3 attempts per game in 2013-14 compared to 8.3 makes on 26.3 attempts last year. The Sabres are currently second in the league in three-point percentage at 38.2, a 6.7 percent increase from last year’s squad, which finished fifth in that department.
