Learning How to ‘Rewrite Their Stories’
IN
A n interview with Charlene Agency
Coordinator for KSACC.
Interviewer: What does KSACC stand for and
what services do you offer?
Charlene: KSACC (Kamloops Sexual Assault
Counselling Centre) has been around for 35
years - which is bittersweet - it would be nice
if we did not have to be in existence, but the
reality is we do.
KSACC is a feminist organization which for us
just means - we are women centred, that we
would like to see equality. We work with men
and youth and children as well.
Women and men are
better off if we live in
an equitable ideology
Interviewer: Can you elaborate on what is the
goal and mission of KSACC?
Charlene: Our goal is to help individuals
who have experienced sexualized violence.
Our mission is to provide counselling,
support services, advocacy, education
and awareness services.
16
We provide everything from one to one
counselling to workshops in the community
about sexualized violence. So people can learn
more about what it actually is and how we can
help as a community.
Interviewer: Can you explain a little more about
the workshops? Are they open to everyone or
exclusive to victims of violence?
Charlene: Our workshops are a means of
education for the community. All of our clients
we see on a one on one basis, and length
of service depends on where they are in
their experience. We do provide some group
counselling as well.
Interviewer: What age groups do you work with?
Charlene: We work with victims from age 3 up.
