Seeing The Art I don’t want to create art that I feel will ‘sell’ based on what people expect from this area. I have never taken an art course from any artist and feel that perhaps now is the time to find a mentor - to improve my skills to jump to the next level. Finally, I would like to help young artists starting out, to develop their art, so that they do not reach 40 years old and feel regret. So, what is your dream? Your 5-year plan? 1. My dream would be that in 5 years I am recognized as a professional artist living in Gaspe. Coupled with those responses, when you have family, friends in the area you do hope and even assume that most will drop by. It is not the matter of making a purchase it is the show of support that is most important, for myself and those artists that I try to encourage to present their work to the public. I hope for the show of support for the artists I have encouraged to take the risk. Interest is critical! It is hard not to take low attendance personally. What do you perceive as challenges for artists in this area? After the Art Expo I had time to reflect on what worked and what did not work. I am happy the artists enjoyed the experience. I was disappointed with the attendance. I must admit that, like most people who plan events, when you see people liking your event on Facebook and saying they will attend you allow yourself to get excited and to believe they will attend. 19
