Seeing The Art I did learn a couple of things: hire an assistant (you cannot be everywhere at the event). I have now created over 200 works of art. I currently only own 25 in my home gallery. The other thing I learned is to not undercharge because of the fear of not being hired. I was undervaluing my work, which is what so many artists do with their creations. Is there a Women in Business Group that meets to network and support each other? How do you handle negative feedback? I believe that most people experience criticism in one form or another at sometime in their life. Sometimes it seems to follow us throughout our life, especially if we do not learn ways to deal with negativity. Artists are always being compared. With comments like; ‘She is a good painter, but she can’t paint as good as...’ What is your response when people say things like that? I say nothing, I am hurt, however. I take that hurt and pour the energy into my work and create a painting that sells within hours at times. My way of saying ‘I will show you.’ I guess the criticism has motivated me to work harder. 18 There is nothing in the area. We do not have the business networking, nor do we have the social networking support for people living with cancer and so many other struggles in life. One of the things that prevents people gathering is the fact that many local people are very private people. They do not feel comfortable talking to or looking for help outside their family unit. How do you market yourself? I created my Facebook Page and I am almost up to 1000 members within a year or so, which is good considering the physical location of where I live and work. I am constantly marketing myself, I am pushing a lot - I sometimes think it is too much online and it needs to be more in person. That is something I am working on. What is the next step for your art? I would like to have a place to display my art so that I can move some of it out of my home. Truthfully, I would also like to focus more of my art on my own style.
