Seeing The Art
Even now, years later, I feel the attitude of
some in our society that have not embraced art
as a ‘real career’. Truthfully, I often make more
with art than my day.
Did you enjoy Graphic Design?
Graphic Design was never a passion. I always
wanted the artist career. When I attended
CEGEP, I was advised;
‘You are good at art, but a
better career for you would be
as a Graphic Designer’
So, I took that person’s advice and truth be told
I had a very good career as a Graphic Designer.
I was not so much a designer as an artist.
Although I was good at it, in hindsight, I should
have followed my heart and achieved my BA
in Arts. I am a social person and enjoy working
with people.
Graphic Designers are a behind the scenes
people. I did not meet the client - my boss
met them.
Even awards were presented to my boss for the
work of the company not for my individual work.
I was not feeling good about not receiving
the recognition.
How long did you stay, study and work
in Montreal?
I lived in Montreal for 10 years. However, every
time I returned for vacation the area tugged at
my heart strings.
I started wondering if I could I get a job in the
Gaspe area in Graphic Design. I did fear that
my level of French speaking was not good
enough and it held me back from making
the move.
While in Montreal I met my boyfriend, who
is from New Brunswick. He too was pulled to
return home to build a life.
Then things started to happen, my boyfriend
found a job that he accepted in the Gaspe area.
Within the same month, I found a job in the
area as a Graphic Designer!
So, we moved back and within 1 month bought
