Community“Discovering Bedford-Stuyvesant”
I covered the 7th Annual Discover Bed-Stuy Resource and Safety Expo at Boys & Girls High School (1700 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11213). The event had 80 stands with information on community resources that are available to help families and residents in Bed-Stuy. The resources included: Job Prep Programs For Adults, Day Care services, Summer Programs, Health Information and Screenings, Senior Services, and Energy Saving Services to name a few. Visitors’ enjoyed the Vendor’s Walk and were able to relax and eat in the Savor Bed-Stuy Café. Children can enjoy Arts and Crafts, Games, Face-Painting, and Rock Climbing in the Children’s Village. Workshops and panels on such topics as Seeking Work, Elderly Care, Neighborhood Safety, and CPR Training will allow for in-depth discussions on what is going on right here in Bed-Stuy! Raffles and free giveaways are available throughout the day. When I arrived around 6:30 pm and the event was still thick with activity. The vendors and speakers were fully engaging and informative. It did my heart good to see first-hand how awesome my community is at coming together. Bed-Stuy has a rich history and it is my hometown, I am born and bred Bed-Stuy. So from here on end you will find some interesting things, people and places being featured here about wonders of Bed-Stuy. Enjoy. The video coverage aired on Cablevision Ch 68, Time Warner Ch 79, Verizon Ch 43, and Dish Network RCN Ch 83. To see the video footage click here.
