Shortly after the birth of her 1st child, a seat became available in the house of representatives for the 12th Suffolk district. Her husband, a boston reporter, and many of her friends kept saying “Linda should run” and “[she] was like, what are you crazy? I can’t run!” Here she interrupts her story to reference a study stating that “you have to ask a woman at least seven times before she will say yes to running for office, you only have to ask a man once.” Senator Forry says that when she was finally convinced she was qualified, she announced her campaign and the long hours and hard work ensued. She remembers telling herself that she “was not simply entitled to this position” even as the desired polls came in. Senator Forry beat out the incumbent to become the second Haitian American to hold public office in Massachusetts. She focused those next few years and even her time as a senator on “coming together and leaving all contentions behind.”
"Senator Forry is the second Hatian-American to hold public office and the only current black senator in Massachusetts."
