american artist Sonia Kane oil (Left) This tender scene of a mother swan and her three babies was painted from an image captured by photographer Dave Smith. While his original photo was very dramatic with entirely black water, I chose to give it a softer, gentler look that emphasized the tenderness I saw. The inspiration for this painting, as well as many others, was to create a series of water-themed paintings for a solo show that would benefit a clean water and sanitation project. The show, entitled “Making Ripples: impacting lives through the art of clean water” took place this summer and raised several thousand dollars for a Rotary International project in the Dominican Republic.
