My journey in clay is evolving from purely functional vessels to sculptural organic
forms. I am excited each time I find a new direction. My recent travels to the national
parks are a primary inspiration in capturing the natural beauty of the trees, canyons
and seascapes and expressing that raw beauty in my pottery. I like to push the clay
to it’s limits causing cracks, fissures, and surfaces reminiscent of dry cracked earth,
tree bark, canyons and geological terrain. I then use stains, oxides and glazes to
extenuate that texture. I also like to add found objects to the pieces when it adds to
the narrative. The anticipation of the forms and surfaces to come is what leads me
onward.
