english artist Elizabeth Williams oil painting Influenced and inspired by the colours of the vibrant world, the main focus for me is experimentation with colour and light working in both the traditional media and lately, more informally and carefree, in multi-layered textural contemporary examples created for today’s interior decoration. Arranging the flowers and objects in my Still Life paintings with the tones and shadows controlled by careful lighting and watching the the imagery slowly evolve to a flourish of the finished piece, is what inspires and drives me. These paintings, in a labour of love, take many hours to complete, in the ‘Chiaroscuro’ style classical manner of the old masters. The same inspiration is evoked when I look at the sea, where I live on the Dorset coast in southern England, as seen in my Seascapes and Landscapes. Painting these images, in oils, best allows me to capture the vibrancy of the colours around me and, too, the knowledge that this medium will stand the test of time, secured safely within their frames. wom en ART page 20
