The Bags
I create are inspired by one single thing: the materials that are available to me at any given point of time. I try to only use materials that have no negative impact on the environment or the people producing them, although I must admit that this is a thin line to walk. I collect old, ethnic fabrics from all corners of the world and combine them with vintage materials from around the corner- second-hand textiles, used leather belts, fabric scraps, vintage zippers and the like. Essentially, my bags are almost entirely recycled. I have worked with a variety of vintage ethnic fabrics, such as old, handwoven Huipils from Guatemala, embroidered Hmong baby carriers from South East Asia or hand-stitched Kantha quilts from India and Bangladesh. These gorgeous textiles never fail to amaze me, and I hope my bags do them justice! page 45
