american artist Julia Powell Oil, Watercolor, Pastel The coast of Maine, jagged and sharp with color; the wood on old, beloved barns; the bounce of boats and sunlight in the sea; the flawed elegance of birch trees: these are my muses. I grew up in New England and the woods, water, mountains and rocky shores all conspire to influence my work. I aim to blend the impressionist, fauvist and abstract expressionist traditions in a color-saturated palette consisting of the brightest, most vibrant hues. By using these particular forms and colors, I hope to bring the viewer to a joyful and contemplative place.
