honour”
My painting came instinctively in response to news
of the worldwide practise of Honour Killings – an
ancient tradition still employed by the believers in
this barbaric treatment of women and girls. It is my
hope that this artwork will be the voice of protest
against honor killings and be the voice for those
silenced by this horrific tradition, and perhaps, bring
cultural change through quiet protest. Rest in peace,
innocents.

Victims of honor killings are killed for reasons such
as refusing to enter an arranged marriage, being in
a relationship that is disapproved by their relatives,
having sex outside marriage, becoming the victim of
rape, having a poor academic standing; dressing in
ways which are deemed inappropriate, or engaging
