This photograph captures a Marine approaching a helicopter on our camp. I love the symbolism in this photograph. I feel very conflicted about my service in the Army - I’m proud to have served my country but also know (in my soul) that war is not the answer. The area where I served deals with violence to this day ... what did we accomplish by invading, I often wonder. [ right ] “Joyous Simplicity” was photographed in the Peruvian Amazon - in a wonderful town along the Ucayali River. It brings me great joy traveling around the world and getting a chance to meet people from other cultures. I loved the time I spent in this small village and plan to return one day. wom en
