Fulfilling Destiny
My journey to entrepreneurship began while on a retreat some years ago. On my way home from the retreat, I felt a powerful message in my spirit. The words that formed in my heart and mind said,“ You will own your own business and employ your neighbors.” I wrote those words in my journal, and waited for my opportunity.
Soon after, there was an economic recession. I lost both my full-time and part-time jobs within 7 days of each other. Shortly after that, I received an unexpected email offering an opportunity that turned me into an entrepreneur. That opportunity gave me the freedom to start and develop the strong relationships that are needed to be a business owner of good integrity and character. People need to know that you care about what is important to them. They need to know that you can solve their problem.
I told myself I can sink or swim. I chose to swim.
I had to act immediately, so I enrolled in Momentums Women Venture Program and learned all I could about running a small business. I came to understand, while working my business and attending business classes, that I still had so much to learn. I remember feeling overwhelmed, wanting to give up. I reminded myself of my vision. My cleaning company, Royal Ambassador, focuses on commercial, residential and post construction cleaning sites in and around Calgary, Alberta. We love to focus our residential work on seniors and persons with disabilities.
I continued to press forward and humble myself. When I needed an answer to a question, or advice on a changing situation, I needed to search and find. I learned to train myself to take immediate action and dig deep until I could find the solution.
I know that I am called to be a business owner. My vision for my business is that it will be a platform to assist in connecting communities and empower economic change and growth. This will happen by Royal Ambassador hiring neighbors in and through the community, and paying all employees a fair living wage.
My great-grandfather used to tell my mother,“ If you are going to do anything, do it well.” I want to do everything well. Part of my vision is to provide good jobs for community residents and support a society where people are respected and valued in the workplace.
Being an entrepreneur is not just about a paycheck – it is also a gateway for my company, Royal Ambassador, to be a blessing to someone else.
