In many countries, there have been conservation projects to preserve wolves from extinction; in other places they have been reintroduced. Many wolves have survived in Europe and they have lived in Alaska, Canada, and Asia.

Wolves have lived and hunted in packs since ever. They have roamed large distances to look for prey—large animals such as deer, elk, and moose. Wolves have also eaten smaller mammals, birds, fish, lizards, snakes, and fruit.

Wolf packs have established according to a strict hierarchy, with a dominant male at the top and his mate not far behind. Usually this male and female have been the only animals of the pack to breed. All of a pack's adults have helped to care for young pups by bringing them food and watching them while others hunt.
