Music and Space are two of the coolest things… so why not put them together? On the 12th of May 2012 during space Expedition 35, Astronaut, Chris Hadfield, did just that and recorded the first music video from space ever! Orbiting the Earth at 17,500 miles an hour (or 28,163.52 kilometers per hour), the Canadian astronaut performed his own rendition of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" as well as tweeting and blogging, making him the de facto ambassador from Outer Space. (HOW MUCH COOLER CAN YOU GET?!) Jewel in the Night was the first song Chris Hadfield recorded in space and it was released on YouTube on Christmas Eve of 2012. Astronaut, Chris Hadfield performing David Bowie's "Space Oddity" Chris gained immense popularity by chronicling life aboard the space station and taking pictures of the earth and posting them online using Twitter and Facebook to be shown all around the world. He was even a guest on the news and talk shows! After his mission ended in May 2013 he returned to Earth and not long after he announced his retirement from a 35-year career as a military pilot and an astronaut. Chris has a Facebook page and YouTube channel where you can find all the incredible videos!
