Frida Kahlo was a Mexican-born
painter who was most famously
recognised for her intriguing
self-portraits. Her works are
celebrated by feminists, who
appreciate her strong depiction
of females.
In 1929 Kahlo married a fellow
artist, named Diego Rivera,
which was frowned upon by her
mother. Ten years later they
divorced as a result of the two
both having separate affairs, but
remarried in 1940.
On July 13th 1954, at the age of
47, Frida passed away due to a
suspected overdose. Shortly
before her death she wrote in
her diary, “I hope the exit is
joyful — and I hope never to
return — Frida".
"I paint myself because I
am so often alone and
because I am the subject I
know best."
