Wellness Body Oil This was my intro Hair Mask I have highlighted Lip Balm I swear by this one! TIP: To remove static, just rub a small amount onto hands and run fingers through dry hair. Also fantastic for dandruff sufferers. to coconut oil: start simple. I initially had the horrifying image in my head of being lubed up in oil, looking much like I had coated myself in Crisco, crawling into bed only to slip out the other side like a mud puppy! Couldn’t be further from the truth...it’s amazing! Absorbs quickly and is not greasy at all. I found adding a few drops of lavender oil made it extra nice. Great for those who suffer from psoriasis or eczema as it reduces redness and inflammation. Put some in a little container (a contact case works well). You can add a little peppermint oil for that minty scent, vanilla or just apply it raw. My lips have never been so hydrated. I’m addicted! Makeup Remover I wear a full coverage foundation so removing it requires some elbow grease. Massage on dry face, makeup and all, and rinse with warm water or wipe away. I personally follow up with a second cleanse but it’s not necessary depending on how much makeup was worn. Also makes a good makeup brush cleaner and facial moisturizer, even for those oily acne-prone skins. Brilliant! Shaving If you are one of the many women who gets ingrown hairs, this is for you! Just massage the oil onto legs and shave...it’s that simple. The razor will glide effortlessly, intensely hydrating your skin and thus reducing ingrown hairs over time. Plus your legs look sexy as heck after (watch out JLo!). Just be careful when shaving in the shower as it can make the floor slippery which happened to me. NOT a pretty sight, I tell ya. Think Bambi on ice. WELLNESS TRENDS hair so my hair tends to be on the drier side. Shampoo as normal, melt a little oil in your hands and massage into the bottom half of your hair; avoid root area if you like volume. Let sit for 5-15 minutes and rinse out. I prefer to do this at night before bed. I add the oil, rinse out slightly, leaving some oil in, put hair into a bun and sleep with it. I then shampoo the next morning. My hair was surprisingly soft and it was like my split ends disappeared! Oil Pulling What on earth is this?!? Put a Tbsp of oil (solid) into your mouth first thing in the morning and swish it around like mouthwash for 5-20 minutes, spit, then rinse with warm water and brush your teeth the traditional way. It works like osmosis by drawing or pulling bacteria into your mouth so it can be removed. I’ll fully admit right now, I’m not a huge fan yet - I compare the sensation to chewing on a stick of butter....BLAGH! The oil does convert to a liquid through the heat of your mouth fairly quickly making it a bit easier to tolerate but can easily get thick again the longer you swish or as you pull more bacteria. I refuse to give up as I have begun to notice some slight improvements such as fresher breath, teeth that are naturally brighter and gums that look healthier. Seeing as my maximum ‘swish’ time after several weeks is three minutes and 36 seconds I can’t expect superior results just yet. NOTE: Don’t gargle the oil and do not spit oil into the sink as it can clog drains when turning back into a solid form. Spit into the toilet or trash can. fall 2015 | wo magazine | 35
