Get Outside Every Day: On
the coldest winter’s day, a little jolt of
fresh air and sunshine is still good for
you. We live in one of the most beautiful parts of Canada, so treat yourself
to a stroll along the Niagara River or
a hike on the Bruce Trail. Take a friend
and really listen while she tells you all
her news. Make her day, and yours.
Read Aloud to Your Kids:
It doesn’t matter what you read –
just read. They won’t remember the
book, they’ll remember the closeness you shared. Make their day.
Hit the Road: I’m a big believer
in discovering wildly different corners of
the world for a little cultural immersion
but if you’re a homebody by nature,
try driving an hour or two down the
road to visit a town or city you’re
not familiar with. Eat at a restaurant
you’ve never been to, try Thai or
Indian or Vietnamese food and get a
fresh perspective on cuisine and life.
Choose an adventurous attitude.
Master a Silly Skill: Learn
to juggle, join a clown group, teach
yourself a few hilarious jokes and
give an impromptu standup routine
at your next family gathering. Play!
Be Good to Yourself: Treat
yourself the way you would your
children by making sure you eat
well and get enough sleep. Choose
to be well-fed and well-rested.
Find a Sport You Enjoy:
Make it a part of your everyday routine. If it’s a sport you do with friends,
even better, but make sure you choose
to be proactive about your good health.
Serve a Favourite Dinner:
Yours, your partner’s, or your kids’.
Make someone’s day.
Fix the Little Things: Sew on
that missing button, oil the squeaky
hinge, get your shoe lifts replaced
and give them a good polish, and
get your coat dry cleaned so it feels
fresh and new. Choose to be proud
of how you live your everyday life.
Make an Heirloom: Create
something for your family to treasure.
Make a one-of-a-kind family album,
paint a picture of your home or
beloved pet or sculpt something that
symbolizes love. Give it to those you
adore with a special little speech about
how much you love them. Make their day.
