Features HEALTH Besides being a chiropractor, what makes you different from other medical practitioners? I am no different than any other family physician. You’ll notice that most family physicians see the same array of patients; however, you may also notice that many physicians have a particular interest in certain fields of medicine. My particular interest is in musculoskeletal and sports injuries, and lifestyle medicine. How would you sum up your approach? I do not think that simply taking a vitamin cures illness, nor that simply running on a treadmill eliminates chronic pain. I don’t believe that pharmaceutical therapies should be utilized alone in a treatment plan for chronic illnesses. There are other options to explore while you are taking those medications. Lifestyle medicine supports those options and encourages patients to make those lifestyle changes with the hope of decreasing their dependence on drugs to survive. I believe that medicine saves lives but I also believe that lifestyle medicine can improve your life. Lifestyle Medicine also has a great team... Dr. Chris Henson is our team’s lead chiropractor. He works with many professional athletes, health club members and community residents. He’s experienced in all aspects of musculoskeletal care and has exceptional skills in Active Release Technique (ART). In addition to his work in the clinic, he teaches ART throughout Canada and the U.S. He’s certified in Acupuncture and is a vital link in our team. Alanna Goertsen is our Registered Massage Therapist. She brings vast experience in musculoskeletal care as well as experience is providing relaxing massage for those who just wish to escape the struggles of everyday life. She’s also a Registered Kinesiologist and this adds extra flair to her abilities to encourage positive lifestyle changes for our patients. Together, we’re integrated in our communication, we collaborate with each other and we discuss our patients’ treatment plans. What could be better than bringing the worlds of traditional and non-traditional medicine under one clinic, with one collective goal for the patient? This is the future of medicine. What is your relationship with White Oaks, where Lifestyle Medicine and Sports Injuries Clinic will be located? White Oaks is internationally recognized for their leadership and commitment to the wellbeing of our community. The team members here at White Oaks are just like family, and they live the lifestyle that I wish to encourage. My desire was to team up with White Oaks with the hope of expanding on their vision. White Oaks has a very specialized group of certified personal trainers who can individualize programs for our patients. The club also has yoga, exercise classes, weights, aerobic machines, spinning and many other unique programs which I felt could be utilized to maximize our patients’ healthy changes. In short, White Oaks has the background for Lifestyle Medicine and Sports Injuries Clinic to offer the best all-around guidance and approach to a full spectrum of services that would encourage our patients to make healthy lifestyle changes.
