HEALTH
the future of
medicine
An interview with Dr. Michael Torigian,
family physician and chiropractor, of the
recently opened Lifestyle Medicine & Sports
Injuries Clinic in The Club at White Oaks.
Family and staying local is
important to you it seems.
I was born and raised in St.
Catharines, and graduated from
Lakeport Secondary School. My
wonderful wife Lori was also
born and raised in St. Catharines
and she teaches Grade 2 and 3
at Edith Cavell Public School. We
have three beautiful daughters
- Maya is 11 years old, Ayla
is nine and Addison is five.
You have an armful of degrees...
what is your educational and
professional background?
I have a B.Sc. in Biology, I’m
a Doctor of Chiropractic and a
Medical Doctor. After high school,
I attended McMaster University
until I left for Chicago to attend
The National University of Health
Sciences (formerly National College
of Chiropractic), where I received
my Bachelor of Science in Biology
and my Doctor of Chiropractic
degrees. I worked as a chiropractor
for eight years until I enrolled
in medical school, ultimately
completing my Family Medicine
Residency at Queen’s University.
I have extensive experience in
Chiropractic, acting as the team
chiropractor for many junior and
university athletic teams, including
many local Olympians. I’m certified in
Acupuncture and have extra training
in nutritional health. I’m currently
working as a family physician
in a very busy medical practice,
seeing a wide range of typical
family medicine issues. I am also
an Associate Professor (Adjunct)
at McMaster University, helping
to train future medical doctors.
