some maple syrup to take home. During the maple sugaring sea-
son (February-April) you can tour their sugaring house and see
maple syrup production.
Hammondsport
Located about two hours from Buffalo, Hammondsport is a
very picturesque place to visit. One of the first places you’ll want
to check out is Hammondsport’s village square, which is sur-
rounded by a number of unique shops and restaurants. My kids
especially liked the Crooked Lake Ice Cream Parlor, which
serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, in addition to ice cream
treats. Just a few blocks from the village square is the Keuka
Lake waterfront, which has a beach and boat docks.
There are also a couple of museums of interest in Ham-
mondsport. The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum (www.glennhcur-
tissmuseum.org) features vintage aircraft, bicycles, and motor-
cycles. Curtiss, a Hammondsport native who was issued the first
pilots license in the country, was responsible for a number of
early aircraft developments.
Another area museum, the Finger Lakes Boating Muse-
um (www.flbm.org) which opened in 2014 in the former Taylor
Wine Company building, features exhibits about the various boat
builders that were once prevalent in the Finger Lakes Region.
The museum features a boat restoration shop and they even have
a children’s activity room.
