Embley on the pitch
Embley has highlighted its growing success in hockey by naming Olympic gold medallist and England Hockey president Alex Danson- Bennett MBE as a coach . Alex was vice-captain of the team that won gold at Rio 2016 . She has 306 international caps and was England captain from 2017 until retiring in 2020 and is still involved as a coach and member of sports bodies .
She joins Embley ’ s head of hockey , international player Joe Barker , who has seen the 1st XI boys and girls teams reach national and regional finals . Alex said , “ I am absolutely delighted to be joining the thriving department at Embley and cannot wait to share my passion and knowledge .”

Embley sailors are taking part in research expeditions into the Solent to monitor changes in the waters that they sail , as part of the school ’ s marine biology research programme . Embley says that collecting data each week as part of the school ’ s sailing programme offers students the chance to gain real scientific experience , while contributing to a broader understanding of the changing marine environment .

Prince ' s Mead rewarded for eco commitment
Prince ’ s Mead School ’ s work on environment stewardship has been rewarded with a distinction in its Eco-Schools Green Flag assessment . The international Eco-Schools scheme provides a seven-step framework to support young people in making a difference in their school , local community and beyond . Schools achieving the seven steps are awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag .
Key initiatives at Prince ’ s Mead range from partnering a school for vulnerable children in Uganda to community litter picking and plant-based food options by the catering team .

Ex-pupil wins award
The need for more women in science , technology , engineering and maths ( STEM ) was underlined by a former St Swithun ’ s pupil when she visited to unveil a special purple plaque . Claire Trant won a Women in Innovation Award as co-founder of Untap Health , which provides a wastewater surveillance system to give early warnings of virus outbreaks .
The plaques are produced by Innovate UK to recognise women inventors and inspire girls into STEM . Claire said , “ Supporting young women in STEM is crucial for a balanced society .
