keep sharpening the muscle. It’ s not about perfection— it’ s about progress. The best mixers I know are still learning. If you think you’ ve arrived, you’ ve already stalled out.

Gear List Favs
Let me preface this by saying— I’ m not a gear guy. I hate being labeled as a“___ brand” guy. People get attached to brands like it’ s a football team or a political party, and I don’ t think that mindset serves your skill. It can blind you to what’ s actually best for the room, the moment, or the artist. I’ ve used all kinds of gear in all kinds of situations— what matters most is your ears, your instincts, and how intentional you are. With that said, here’ s what I’ ve found myself gravitating toward lately:
Pastor Mic:
• Point Source Audio has really impressed me lately. For handheld, a wireless Beta 58 is super safe.
Vocal Mic Wireless:
• Too many variables to name a favorite. But I like to have a Beta 58, Neumann 105, and KSM9 around when I’ m testing.
Vocal Mic Wired:
• Same story— too many variables. But I usually have a Beta 58, Neumann 105, and KSM9 in the mix when testing.
Mics on Drums: Here’ s my first-choice setup for a modern pop / rock band:
• Kick— Beta 91A( until a new mic I’ ve been beta testing drops this year)
• Snare Top— Beta 57
• Snare Bottom— Mojave MA-101
• Toms— Lauten Tom Mic
• Overheads— Mojave 200 or AKG 414 ULS( the’ 90s model)
• Hi-Hat— Still figuring that one out.
Mics on Guitar Amps:
• Good ole SM57 on all of’ em.
Ambient Mics:
• Combo of shotguns and LDCs like 414s.
Headphones:
• Neumann closed-back headphones.
Other Gear You Love: My Callaway ELYTE mini driver and Callaway Heavenwood with a Ventus Black Velocore + shaft.
Digital Consoles:
• Yamaha Rivage platform. But I’ ll use anything that doesn’ t break.
Plug-ins:
• I always try to use the console first— but I just can’ t get away from models of classic analog gear. All of them.
Main Speakers:
• L-Acoustics, d & b, Meyer— in no particular order. They’ re all premium and now have products to fit almost every budget and room size. Mostly.
Monitor System:
• Just match the FOH desk and keep it simple. I’ m a fan of personal mixers or apps too.
In-Ears Brands:
• I feel like this changes every 18 months— but 64 Audio has been consistently solid.
