BOSS KATANA: GO BOSS has released a personal headphone guitar amplifier that is portable, rechargeable, has BOSS Tone exchange and works with guitar or bass. BOSS has taken favorite features from their popular KATANA amplifier line and loaded them into a palm sized powerhouse called the KATANA: GO. The device packs 10 different amplifiers, dedicated bass mode and 30 memory modes loaded per instrument. KATANA: GO links to your smart phone via Bluetooth to access the BOSS Tone Exchange of globally shared effects and sounds. Linking to your phone permits jam tracks to be played back through the GO so you can practice, jam or learn with them. It is also timestamp capable to mark your YouTube backing tracks. Besides providing output to earbuds / headphones the KATANA: GO can outsource via USB audio interface to your DAW for recording sessions.
GO can be paired with the optional BOSS MIDI Expression pedal and the Wireless Footswitch to control amps and effects hands free. Features on the KATANA: GO include built in tuner, A, B, C memory banks on the device for amps and effects, Display screen on top, Stage Feel button, Bluetooth pairing button on the side, volume, on / off and power level warning. Sound quality was incredible with no latency. For $ 139.99 the BOSS KATANA: GO is a steal for a practice, jam, learning tool and USB audio interface for recording. I forced myself stop playing to finish this article. Buy it. I recommend the optional CB- KTNGO carrying pouch to protect your KATANA: GO for an extra $ 12. www. boss. info / us

Pigtronix Gas Giant FUZZ pedal If you’ re a fan of WOF( wall-o-fuzz) 1970’ s Fuzz sounds, then you will embrace the new Pigtronix Gas Giant FUZZ pedal. The Gas Giant has added some tonal choices and has loaded this device with quad-matched transistor sets. It uses the standard three knob controls of Volume, Tone and Gain, but where it varies is that the Tone control is dual function offering fatter bass and more midrange and top end. There are two rocker switches on top of the pedal, one is for a midrange Bump or midrange Scoop. The other delivers wide Open Gas Giant or an internal Noise Gate to tame the beast. The internal gate is derived from Pigtronix Gatekeeper pedal and utilizes high-speed FET circuitry. The pedal only draws 100mA of power, runs on 9VDC and has true bypass switching. The Gas Giant isn’ t a pedalboard hog either since it delivers big sounds and still fits in a single pedal slot. Plugged in I was able to dial up 60’ s and 70’ s Rock tones along with some fat 90’ s Grunge. Gas Giant is essentially multiple Fuzz pedals in one convenient sized unit, and it’ s only priced at $ 149 street. Personally, I prefer it over the vintage fuzz pedals because the Gas Giant can be tweaked for more or less fuzz easier with less ambient un-wanted noise. www. pigtronix. com

Chase Bliss Brothers AM- Twins of Tone Pedal What happens when two cutting edge pedal creators come together to create one device? You get the Brothers AM – Twins of Tone from Chase Bliss and Analog Man. WM was fortunate to get one of these pedals in for review as they are currently accepting preorders for the second run since the first sold out quickly. If you are a fan, as many of us are, of the King of Tone overdrive by Analog Man, the Brothers AM Twins of Tone is basically that pedal on steroids. I won’ t be able to dive into everything this pedal does, but I will hit the high points. The right side of Twins of Tone is your Overdrive setting channel 1 and the left side is the Distortion portion and channel 2.
The mini toggle switch in between the two separate foot stomp buttons allows you to have knob control in the center position. If you engage it to the right or left, then you can setup up two presets of your favorite tones. The upper middle mini toggle is the similar to the Analog Man Beano Boost that can be turned on or off. In typical Chase Bliss fashion, the pedal has added an Expression / CV input on the right side and MIDI output on the right side of the pedal. There are also adjustments inside of the pedal for expanding the booster response. On the front portion of the pedal, you have Control and Customize switches to tweak the sounds to your personal desired taste. Plugged in the OD channel adds some nice subtle edge, but it must be turned to the ¾
