Favorite virtual instruments? Spitfire, Spectrasonics, Native Instruments, Splice.
Recent Scripture that inspired you? Proverbs 16:9“ The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” Always keep that one handy!
Recent worship album you have been enjoying listening to?“ The Resurrection of a King” by Tommy Profitt with various artists is highly cinematic and reimagines so many iconic hymns and songs. The new arrangements make them fresh for me, and I enjoy his massive cinematic pop sound. He was in our studios this week recording an episode of our CornerstoneTV show Song Revolution with John Chisum.
Words of advice for other worship songwriters? Write something that doesn’ t sound like everyone else. Chase originality. Be brave in your words and be real. We have enough similar sounding songs in worship. Develop creativity as you develop your craft.
A tip for co-writing songs? Choose co-writers who strengthen you, not just people you like. Don’ t be afraid to celebrate someone else’ s ideas over your own.
Is there an upcoming project or song you are working on that you can mention here? We’ ve just recorded thirteen episodes of Song Revolution with John Chisum for CornerstoneTV that start airing on that network September 5. Our guests have been Tommee Profitt, David Leonard( All Sons and Daughters),
Coby James, Kathy Troccoli, Bay Turner, Clark Beckham, Laura Osnes, Meredith Andrews, Hope Darst, Don Moen, Holly Brand( Integrity Music), and Cindy Morgan. There were a few acoustic performances along the way, but we utilized three cameras and our studio gear to produce the show.
