GEAR ROUNDUP
D’ Addario Backline Electric Guitar Gig Bag
The backline products by D’ Addario are truly designed by musicians for musicians like us. I have reviewed, tested and purchased many of their products over the years and I recommend them to friends. This new D’ Addario Backline Electric Guitar Gig Bag is like the Bentley of gig bags, and it has set a new gold standard in instrument transport. Visually it looks like your garden variety gig bag
except with the D’ Addario identifying colored circles on the front. The magic is under the hood. Unzip the new Backline Electric guitar bag, they also offer bass and I hope they offer acoustic guitar next; you’ ll see the patentpending Humidipak neck cradle. The zipper around the neck cradle allows you to place the Humidipak inside the gig bag and totally outside of site! The detachable Breakaway Bag on the front of the gig bag utilizes D’ Addario’ s locking strap mechanisms to secure the bag. It is ideal for your laptop, tablet, music and other devices and accessories like straps, capos, tuners and picks. Many zipper compartments inside of the Breakaway Bag and a handle to carry it by. The Backline gig bag has a standard padded handle on the side, plus one on the front and back. On the back of the bag is a hidden area to put your card, details on your instrument or personal information. The padding on the back of the bag is robust and has padded shoulders straps that can be packed away concealed. If you’ re like me and tend to leave your hard cases at home for the simplicity of a gig bag the D’ Addario Backline Electric Guitar gig bag is worth the investment for your premium instruments. The Electric guitar bag, as reviewed, and the bass model sell for $ 299.99 which is not a bad price considering the build and quality of this gig bag delivering superior protection, humification and breakaway storage bag! If you are doing fly dates or travel shows the D’ Addario Backline Electric guitar gig bag is a great option to pack everything you need. www. daddario. com
ZVEX Box of Rock Anniversary & Lo-fi Pedals
ZVEX Effects pedals is one of those companies that not only creates effects pedals that sound great, but they bring an artistic flair to everything they create so they look like little pieces of metal artwork on your pedalboard. I
have been a fan of this company for years and own several of their early models. For review the ZVEX sent over pedals from their more affordable Vexter line. First up we have one of their most popular models celebrating its 25th Anniversary Box of Rock. Designed to tonally recreate a’ 66 Marshall JTM 45 tube amplifier. Knob selection includes boost level( for the footswitch on the left), and volume, tone and drive for the footswitch on the right. Plugged in the Box of Rock pedal sound like an overdriven tube amp even at lower levels. If you are doing heavier Christian Rock songs you can max out the drive, I thought it sounded great delivering some added grit at lower levels. Having the boost included make the Box of Rock two pedals for the price of $ 249. The ZVEX Instant Lo-Fi Junky Vexter is something you didn’ t know you needed in your pedal tool kit, but you do. Created to sound like a Lo-Fi Loop Junky this pedal warps, bends and mutates your sound like a slightly warped vinyl record on alternating speeds while the voltage changes. From chorus to vibrato all of the sounds are in the Instant Lo-Fi Junky pedal and more and I consider it a secret weapon in your tone library that can add a different texture to heighten a song. ZVEX is selling the Instant Lo-Fi Junky effect for $ 259, and it is worth it for a different sound. Checkout the ZVEX website too they are constantly going into the lab and making pedal magic, like the two pedals we just plugged in and reviewed. www. zvex. com / guitar-pedals
Stringjoy Cleaner Kit
The Nashville-based company, Stringjoy, has recently begun selling their strings in major guitar shops near you and of course online too. Stringjoy reached out to Worship Musician with their line of Instrument Care Products that they just launched. For review we got in the Stringjoy Guitar Polish, String Conditioner, Fretboard Conditioner, All-In-One Cleaner and a nifty branded microfiber string cleaner. After every practice, gig or Praise Team performance I clean off my instruments so that the acid from my hands and skin won’ t tarnish the finish. Our strings need the same attention and care, and I need to get better tat that also. The Guitar Polish is silicone-free and won’ t harm gloss, poly or nitro finishes. I texted it on a vintage instrument and it brought out a shiny luster, cleaned up some dirty spots and smelled great too. Fretboard Conditioner also smelled great I feel like I’ m using grooming products
