In the audio renaissance that we live in today everyone is seeking the best audio reproduction possible even from our wireless earbuds. What caught my eye was their design before I tested out the Pro X earbud models in person. Most ear buds use a single speaker per ear the Status Pro X features a pair of Knowles tweeters and a 12mm dynamic bass driver. What amplifies the audio experience with Status Pro X earbuds is the App that allows you to select from 5 different pre-set EQ patterns or create your own. The Status App provides battery levels for the individual earbuds, and the form-fit case plus three different listening modes. Status Pro X delivers 24 bit / 96kHz audio with LDAC codec streaming up to 990kbps. I actively listen to a large amount of music, and I want to hear all of the diverse instruments and vocals in each song, plus clarity in podcast audio. The Status Pro X delivered excellent separation of instrumentation with increased bass response over other earbuds. The App is the game changer with Status for dialing in your personal sound and mix. The adjustments on the base of each earbud are simple and intuitive for playing or pausing music and joining conversations.
All of us that have had music teachers and professors over the years have spent time with a metronome. Korg has released a modern alternative on their MetroClip that can be clipped on to any instrument, like a tuner and provides different 3D visual display modes and silent or with sound modes. Peavey has just released two self-contained powered PA speaker systems, the PBK 12BT and the PBK 15BT. For review Worship Musician received the PBK 15BT. Peavey markets these for DJ and Karaoke use but I prefer them for small youth group gatherings and outdoor services. Both models of the Peavey PBK series feature two independent input channels with ¼” TRS phone jacks for instruments and XLR input for microphones. The third channel on the back panel also has a 1 / 8” stereo input jack and two RCA phono jacks. The PBK speakers also have an XLR output to drive additional non-powered speakers or to drive a sub. The enclosure is made of infection-molded plastic in a trapezoid shape( for better projection) with a 1 3 / 8” stand mount hole on the bottom and powder coated perforated steel grill. The PBK 15BT, as tested, has a 15” woofer with a 1” PD10 dynamic compression driver. Frequency response is 55 Hz to 17kHz and a peak SPL at 123dB. With the built-in mixer and twospeaker configuration the PBK 15BT still only weighs 36.5 lbs. Peavey has been creating PA speakers since 1968 and the new PBK series is a definite step forward in a self-contained PA unit. The PBK 15BT has a bigger fuller sound, for obvious reasons, but the PBK 12BT comes in 5lbs lighter and does a great job with less bass end.
