Favorite guitar amp for recording? I love old Fender and Vox amps, but new would be the Divided By 13 FDR 37.
Electric guitar amp mic? Shure SM57 / Royer R-121
Main bass instrument on hand? Fender bass with flat wound strings.
Favorite effect pedal you have used? I still use the Boss DD5. I have been using the SoloDallas STORM pedal for about 8 years, I don’ t really understand how it works but it makes things louder but in a clean and more percussive way. I’ ve also been loving the Bondi Effects Art Van Delay, he has been working on a V2 that I have been playing around with.
Brand of cables you use? Mogami.
Brand of acoustic treatment? Panels for noise reduction / diffusion / bass traps? I don’ t have any pro panels or anything, but I do rely on the Trinnov Nova room correction hardware. I have lots of windows at home and
I’ m constantly impressed with how much it makes things sound normal.
Professionally designed studio space? Anotherland Studio is very Pro, my home … not pro at all.
Do you have a separate tracking room? Yes, the tracking room is large and can fit lots of people.
Studio MIDI controller keyboard? I have the Telepathic Instruments Orchid plugged in to my laptop a lot, I’ m not a great keyboard player so it works great for me.
Favorite virtual instruments? Native Instruments and Arturia.
Acoustic piano? Yamaha Disklavier baby grand- lets us run MIDI in and record it organically …
Recent scripture that inspired you? I have been reading( the audio book) of N. T. Wright’ s book on“ Paul” its super fascinating. I have been really been getting back into the Corinthians letters.
Recent worship album you have been enjoying listening to? The Aodhan King / Benjamin William Hastings“ Happy To Be Here” project is really cool, love those guys.
Words of advice for other worship songwriters? I think it really helps to understand the type of song you are trying to write or trying to finish. If this song was finished and working, how would it help the church service? I think it helps to be intentional even if you end up somewhere else by the time the song is finished.
A tip for co-writing songs? I think it’ s important to be open but organized.
Is there an upcoming project or song you are working on that you can mention here? Been working a lot on Amxn Radio with Joel Houston, a bunch of stuff with Matt Crocker( my brother in-law … I married his sister) and we have been working on new UNITED which has been really exciting.
