[WM] Worship Songwriter Buyer's Guide Studio Edition - #15 - 2026 | Página 15

Michael has been making worship records since he was 16 years old in Australia and his years of work with several of the big songs from UNITED is evident. Not to mention he has a Gretsch Signature guitar named after him. What an honor! He works out of both Anotherland Studio and his home set up.
What recording software are you using? Pro Tools for me, Joel Houston has become quite good at Studio One though.
What brand of audio interface do you use? Burl Mothership 40x40 in the main room, if I’ m traveling, I use the UAD Apollo x4.
Do mostly produce your own music or record music for other people? I produce my own as UNITED( I’ m not a solo artist or anything) but I also record other people, too.
Universal Audio Apollo x4
Are you set up to track / record live bands? Yes, this is actually why I love this space so much, I love capturing the collision of people playing together, especially for worship music. It feels like there is two ways to record a layer cake. Where you build from the ground up, recording every individual instrument, or there is the curry or a stew- where everything becomes fused together and interlocked in the process.
Do you use external mic pre’ s, compressors, etc.? I’ m a big fan of API, Chandler and compressors.
I love the Urei 1176. I have an old Revision F that I have used on every vocal since 2009.
Do you use an analog or digital patch bay? Analog but I’ m interested in digital, I’ m highly dyslexic so there is a 50 % chance I’ ll miss patch something( laughing).
Do you use an analog or digital mixing console? We have a API 1608 console but once we have recorded, I try get everything working digitally in Pro Tools as quick as possible.
API 1608-II
