If you’ re making mainstream music, the Flat EQ setting on the back will work well. I checked them with audio meters and pink noise. They are actually pretty smooth top to bottom. There is a significant drop-off at the low end, around 50-60 Hz. That range limit works for most things except maybe movie soundtrack work. For those projects, you want your separate sub handling the ultra-low 20-50 Hz range for risers and hits. If you try to push those frequencies too hard with these speakers, you could damage them. The 2 dB bass boost on the back was easy to hear in my room. If I turn on my sub, I’ d turn the monitor’ s low-end knob down by 1-2 dB. Overall, I noticed a slight bump in the upper range around 5-10 kHz. I tried adding the 2 dB Hi-end boost knob, but it gets too edgy for my taste. There is a tiny dip around 2.5 kHz, which is acceptable and helps with ear fatigue. This range is critical for mixing, though. I could always check my mix with the NS10s, but with the SoundID Reference Room EQ software, I can easily fix any minor issues. I pushed the KRK Kreate 8s up to 85 dB, and they held up well, with little compression. They are rated at 111 dB max SPL, but that’ s too loud for me and my room.
