than a standard D18, and it sounds like more than 20 % but who am I to argue with Martin Guitars. What I noticed most of all was that the E and A bass strings are much more prounced sound wise while playing the Super D18 at full volume. The B and high E strings also reflect an increase in volume. Playing at full strum you don’ t hear the D and G string as much as you do the other four strings. But when you back off and strum more lightly or finger pick then you can hear all of the strings more evenly. The Super D18 is an incredible rhythm guitar instrument. In a multiple acoustic guitar setting I feel like it would provide the low-end harmony, allowing the traditional dreadnought to take the middle and a parlor, banjo or mandolin to take the high-end.
Martin’ s Super D18 fills an acoustic guitar void sonically that can really fill a space that is frequently ignored or omitted. It is much easier to navigate than a baritone guitar but gives you some of the bass bottom end you are looking for.
Priced at $ 3,399.99 the Martin Super D18 is a unique and fun guitar to play that doesn’ t sound like anything else and the 1 ¾” nut width is not challenging to chord on. The model we tested did not have internal electronics but those can be added at the factory as an option. The Martin Super D18 does include a deluxe Martin hardshell form fit case specifically for this model. If you are looking for something fuller and deeper than a dreadnought or a jumbo body style acoustic I highly recommend you try out the Super D18 for yourself. And if you play a guitar pull, you will be the loudest guitar in the room.
