in church settings the team wants worship leaders wireless, so I keep a D’ Addario NS Micro Headstock Tuner on at all times, so I can make adjustments on stage.
[ WM ] For In-Ear Monitors what brand are you using?
[ Alexander ] I’ ve used UE( Ultimate Ears) for my entire career. UE-7s specifically have been my go-to, but as of very recently I’ ve snagged a pair of UE-11pro and have really enjoyed the upgrade.
[ WM ] What do you use to capture song ideas down with?
[ Alexander ] I use the Voicenotes app on iPhone. Undoubtedly the greatest asset to an ADHD songwriter. Also, in the spirit of honesty, I am not a producer in the sense that I am good on a DAW. Many song ideas require“ fleshing out” to know if there’ s something in it, so I, like many people use AI apps like SUNO as a TOOL to help show a songs potential. It’ s far from perfect and certainly not a conduit to WRITE spirit filled songs, in my opinion, but used correctly and wisely it can help the ideas themselves.
[ WM ] What is the next piece of gear you would be excited to have?
[ Alexander ] Maybe I’ m drinking some of the Country Kool-aid right now, but I played a Gibson Acoustic SJ-200 about a year ago, and because I play in such low tunings, I’ ve really wanted a bigger body acoustic, and this one hasn’ t gotten off my mind since then. For now she’ ll sit in an open tab and a dream.
[ WM ] What is a current Worship record you enjoy listening to right now?
[ Alexander ] I’ ve loved Mitch Wong’ s It Needs To Be Said … some more? and Elevation Worship’ s So Be It. Special shoutout to Hillsong Worship’ s Great I Am.
[ WM ] Can you name one challenge you have faced in ministry and how have you grown through it?
[ Alexander ] I cannot emphasize enough … comparison is the thief of joy. And yet, I still find myself in that place over and over again. It has not only robbed me of enjoying the seasons I’ ve been in, but I think it also cripples your ability to create what God wants you specifically to create or lead and live in the authority He’ s designed for your gifting and talents. The remedy? You’ ll always head towards what you’ re focused on. It’ s like learning to drive. If you focus on the pothole, you’ re probably gonna hit it. Learn to fix your eyes above. Learn to focus on Him and His plans for YOU. The world needs what you have to offer through your revelation not your regurgitation.
[ WM ] Do you have words of encouragement to fellow worship leaders, worship bands and audio teams who serve week in and week out at their local church?
[ Alexander ] Serve YOUR church. You will find so much more fulfillment in ministry when you strategically lead and teach your congregation what it means to worship. When we try and recreate what other ministries are doing or even things that we have seen that inspire us, we often fall short and get discouraged. So, work with your local pastors and leaders in how collectively you can make disciples, not just attendees or viewers. In doing so, I have no doubt you will become a greater disciple of Jesus yourself. And in my experience, that is what will help sustain us and keep us in it for the long haul.
