[ WM ] What is your main stage and songwriting guitar and / or keyboard you use?
[ Rita ] As a piano player I would love to play an acoustic, but those days are few and far between. I used to love the Yamaha CP series on the road because it was made with the action of a real piano! Now, I just go with a Nord 3 or 4!
[ WM ] What brand / model vocal microphone do you use on stage? In your home studio( if you have one)?
[ Rita ] My voice is very different and it just doesn’ t like a high end expensive mic so I have done entire records with a simple SM7!
[ WM ] For In-Ear Monitors, what brand are you using?
[ Rita ] I am a big fan of 64 Audio!
[ WM ] What do you use to capture song ideas down with?
[ Rita ] A simple iPhone until I can get up and lay it out on Logic Pro!
[ WM ] What is the next piece of gear you would be excited to have?
[ Rita ] I’ d love to travel with a fully loaded Mac that’ s got MainStage or insane grand piano sounds!
[ WM ] What is a current Worship record you enjoy listening to right now?
[ Rita ] I’ m still loving Abby Gamboa’ s PURE.
[ WM ] What are the biggest challenges you have faced as a woman in ministry and how have you grown through it?
[ Rita ] It’ s a boy’ s club. I actually think it will always be. Most those boys are amazing guys but the industry is geared to lean toward male songs and voices. It’ s a fight I am no longer sure women will ever overcome. I think women have to start believing what they carry is just as sound and creative as men. Record labels get women very young who are unable to make decisions about their own songs and then put them in writing rooms with dominate male writers who can write the same radio singles they release over and over on Christian radio. The art of creativity needs to have a louder voice than the manuscript of labels and publishers.
[ WM ] Do you have words of encouragement to fellow worship leaders, worship bands and audio teams who serve week in and week out at their local church?
[ Rita ] I mentor many worship leaders who are primarily women! Strong, amazing capable women. Women who pastor with discernment and a deep desire to grow as leaders and grow teams as a unit with one goal. Jesus.
I am always telling them to keep their focus on the one who’ s called them and not the church they feel called too. Serving is beautiful but so many of us serve a business called church and lose sight of the church of souls for Jesus.
