settings all flat. To say I was astonished really isn’ t strong enough. The DeArmond Tone Boss brought the Guild to life. It totally changed the dynamic of the guitar by bringing up the bass notes, increasing the mids and dialing back the treble sounds that were dominant before. I didn’ t want to stop playing the DS204E once I plugged it in.
Then I added in reverb, delay and chorus and the guitars tone still shined through. The DeArmond Tone Boss pickup delivers a very realistic almost“ microphone in front of the sound hole” sound quality to the Guild guitar. For an acoustic / electric priced at $ 649.99 the Guild DS240E, plugged in, sounds like a guitar closer to $ 2,000.
Before playing and plugging in the Guild DS240E I would have rated this guitar as great intermediate to beginner instrument. After plugging it in I would state that you could lead a congregation, praise team, or youth group with the Guild and never be worried about your guitar sound.
The Guild DS240E doesn’ t include a gig bag or case, and I would definitely recommend that you purchase one for your investment. If you worry about taking your expensive acoustic / electric guitars out, purchase the DS240E and leave those at home. The DeArmond Tone Boss pickup has made me a believer in the quality of sound reproduction it can deliver as a sound hole pickup.
The Guild DS240E acoustic / electric was a great surprise and learning experience for me to not judge guitars and their pickups until you play and plug them in for yourself!
