[WM] Worship Leader Buyer's Guide #11 | Page 23

[ WM ] What brand / model vocal microphone do you use on stage? In your homestudio( if you have one)?
[ Hope ] I use the same mic at church that I do on the road, a Shure KSM9 with the Shure Axient System featuring a talk back button. This mic has been a game changer for me as a worship leader. There are so many times when I am leading that I want to ask for a mix change, or I want to flow into a song that wasn’ t on our original setlist. This talk back button allows me to communicate directly to the band, production, FOH and monitors while we are in the middle of a live worship set. It creates really smooth transitions and closes the gaps so that our team is in complete unison as we navigate flow and spontaneous moments throughout the worship service.
[ WM ] For In-Ear Monitors what brand are you using?
[ Hope ] I’ m currently using some custom 64 Audio’ s A18t molds. To be honest, it’ s way more drivers than I need, so at some point, I will get another pair that only has around 6-8 drivers. However, I have really loved these inears and this brand.
[ WM ] What do you use to capture song ideas down with?
[ Hope ] My phone! I absolutely love the Voice Memo and Notes apps. I use them to keep track of my ideas. I don’ t play an instrument so it’ s vital for me to get a quick voice memo recording of any melody or lyric idea that I have. I use the notes app to jot down song titles or lyric ideas. I have had a lot of songs start this way and then later turn into something that makes it on an album. I think this is a pretty awesome way to keep an on-going“ diary” of ideas.
[ WM ] What is the next piece of gear you would be excited to have?
[ Hope ] I actually need a back-up set of inears. Just for insurance since I travel so much and it’ s easy for gear to break or get lost.
[ WM ] What is a current Worship record you enjoy listening to right now?
[ Hope ] Wow, that’ s so hard to answer. I love music and worship music so much! My current rotations have been The Belonging Co. Eden, Elevation’ s When Wind Meets Fire, Amanda Cook’ s Survey and the new Bethel We Must Respond. But I’ m also loving some individual songs like“ Who Else”( Gateway),“ The Blood”( Bethel) and“ Clean Heart”( Bryan & Katie Torwalt).
[ WM ] What are the biggest challenges you have faced as a woman in ministry and how have you grown through it?
[ Hope ] I have been incredibly fortunate over my 20 + years in ministry to be surrounded by leaders who never made me feel‘ less than’ because I am a woman. I have had amazing senior pastors and worship pastors who have championed me and other women to step out in our callings and ministries. However, as I have traveled, I have definitely encountered moments where it was obvious that being a woman came with some limitations in trust from others. What I have found to be the best response to that is honor. I don’ t have to prove that God has called me to be a minister of the
