When I ’ m leading a congregation to sing as an expression of worship to God , I ’ d prefer not to use IEM ’ s . I ’ m a big fan of having us musicians share the same sound - the same vibrating air - with the congregation ! I ’ m not a fan of the isolation that comes with IEM ’ s . But I ’ m even less of a fan of a band that can ’ t keep good time !

I ’ m not much of a gear junkie . I ’ m a family man . I can ’ t be ! I ’ m pretty comfortable with the musical instruments and home studio gear I have currently . But my main piece of hardware - the one that ’ s in use more than anything else I own - is my 2019 MacBook Pro laptop . It ’ ll be up for replacement soon , I guess .

[ WM ] What are two of your current Worship records you are enjoying right now ?

[ Grant ] Honestly , I don ’ t listen to “ worship records ” for personal enjoyment . I listen to other types of music if I want personal , individual enjoyment . I keep familiar with what ’ s on the CCLI top 20 , for sure . I listen and enjoy ! But these songs only spread their wings and become what they can be when they are used with a Church congregation . When I listen , I ’ m hoping to hear the potential for a song to help point a gathering of Believers towards Almighty God . For me , it ’ s only when the people are singing these songs together that they make complete sense . That ’ s their ideal environment .

[ WM ] What word of advice do you have for our readers in the worship community ?

[ Grant ] Worship God . Only God . Worship God on His terms not your own . Be aware that everything in our fallen , sinful humanity wants to craft a worship of our own design rather than worship God as He requires . It is perilously possible to worship our own worship of God rather than to truly worship God .
