Paul Reed Smith SE ( stands for Student Edition ) model guitars have become extremely popular with musicians at all playing levels thanks to their quality build , uncompromising sound , playability , and price point .
Three new SE models have been released for 2024 including the Custom 24 Quilt , CE ( Classical Electric ) 24 and the Swamp Ash Special . For review [ WM ] Worship Musician received the CE 24 and the Swamp Ash Special , which both feature bolt-on necks .
Unboxing guitars is always exciting at the WM offices and the new SE models for review did not fail to impress . The CE 24 we received was finished with a deep Black Cherry top , although it is also available in Blood Orange , Turquoise , and Vintage Sunburst . PRS launched the CE model in 1988 and this is the first year it is offered in the SE line . This guitar features a maple top , mahogany back body and rosewood fretboard on a maple neck . The CE 24 is loaded with a pair of PRS 85 / 15 “ S ” pickups which can be split into single coil pickups thanks to the push / pull control knob . Utilizing the three-way toggle in tandem with the coil splitter you have a total of six different pickup selections in this one guitar ! All the sounds generated are usable and can mimic other traditional electric guitars . At $ 559 for the CE 24 this is a ridiculous price for an instrument this versatile tonally and fun to play !
