reams don’t work unless you
do, as the saying goes. No one
knows this better than former
Cowboy Adam Waddell, the 6’10”
Cody native with a halo of blond hair.
Adam’s dream to play basketball was
nearly shattered by a knee injury, but
his Cowboy grit (and the right doctors)
kept him on his path.
Most people outgrow their childhood
dreams, but not Adam. Attending
University of Wyoming games as a
boy put a fire in his belly and he never
wavered. As the son of two UW athletes,
he was born to play, and the unusual
height they passed to him promised a
future in basketball. When he finally
launched his career in the third grade,
Adam hoped that he might one day be
good enough to be a Cowboy.
But he didn’t just dream. A strong work
ethic and passion for sports guaranteed
Adam stood out. As a senior at Cody
High School, Adam made a name for
himself as an athlete to watch, earning
All-State and All-North Conference
honors and ranking first in the state
in rebounding in Class 4A, second in
blocked shots, and fourth in field goal
percentage. Though courted by several
universities, he couldn’t forget the court
he watched as a child. When UW came
calling, he stayed true to his Cowboy
roots and put on the brown and gold.
