Steven said that people of all
ages live in the airpark. Two
organizations are involved:
YPO and WPO. YPO/WPO
is a worldwide organization of
corporate presidents and CEOs
that participate in social and
educational events, seminars and
universities. Steven explained that

two lakes deep enough for
year-round fishing, unique
bridges throughout, and
some of the homes plan to
have their own lakes. There
is a bike trail and running
path as well. The biggest

bowling alley in the basement.
“Christmas and New Year’s {Eve}
are outstanding in the airpark. This
place is packed and the New Year’s
party is always right next door. We
do fireworks right here in front of
the hangars,” Steven explained,
adding that he’s never been up close
to such great fireworks. “There
are usually 50-70 of us that are
here. This is where the kids and
grandkids want to be. This place is
a wonderland in the winter.”
As Steven began building The
Refuge, he decided to host a Fly-In.
In September of 2014, they held
their first event. As Steven began
setting things in motion, he was
pleased to find that many wanted to
come on board with the event. Cyrus

became involved, bringing in the
big planes. Guest speakers included
Scott Ernest, President and CEO
of Textron Aviation, and George

Leadership Speaker.
The 2014 event was a couple of
days packed with fun activities: flyfishing, roping, archery, Husky rides,
white water rafting, golfing, trap
shooting and horseback riding, just
to name a few. The aircraft, hangars
and airpark were showcased,
including many items which are
works of art in themselves. There
was even a chicken drop from the
airplanes to see who could come
closest to the target.
The evenings were filled with
banquets, a wild game dinner,
speakers, Western bands, swing and
line dancing, and simply relaxing
with friends. This year, the Alpine
Fly-In is tentatively set for June
25-28.
