Project ReGain In 2013 as a result of initial funding from Rhonda Zimmerman, the 12-24 Club started Project ReGain, a career development and life skills program for people in recovery. The goals and objectives of the program are to help those in recovery find recovery in all aspects of their lives. It encourages self-sufficiency, self-esteem and self-worth through job training, life skills training, professional image consulting, and education about core values using the Code of the West curriculum as a foundation. The Code of the West was developed by James P. Owen, bestselling author of Cowboy Ethics: What Wall Street Can Learn from the Code of the West. Rob Johnston, Program Director, for Project ReGain has worked with interns from the Occupational Therapy and Social Work programs at Casper College to provide a ten week curriculum with skills training related to values clarification, family dynamics, time management, personal budgeting and nutrition as they relate to a person’s recovery from alcohol or drugs. are scheduled to graduate in December. Applications are being accepted for the class scheduled to begin in February 2014. Students attend a two hour class once a week for ten weeks. Participants are also required to meet with Project ReGain staff outside of class time to work on goals specific to the participant. The Project ReGain program contracted with Curtiss Kolodney who developed a series of Recovery Measures which are a standardized participant profile which assesses the participant’s recovery capital and quality of life. These online surveys are completed at the beginning of the program and in the tenth week. Areas of improvement and deficits are noted related to the participant’s physical health, social relationships, and environments. The Recovery Resource Room The Recovery Resource Room is another project funded with private dollars to create a resource library and computer lab for persons seeking information on alcohol and substance use addiction. Class sessions focus on skill assessments, interest inventories, family and personal values, goal setting, resume writing, interviewing skills, job search strategies, and other areas critical for participant success. The first class of twelve individuals graduated in August 2013. Currently an additional fifteen individuals 48 Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine | Winter 2013 The library currently contains over 200 books and related resources on traditional 12-Step programs, other recovery options, mental health and sexuality. The Recovery Resource Room is staffed with local volunteers and student interns from Casper College. The Resource Room’s computer stations by Project ReGain participants as necessary for job search information, resume preparation, and other vocational endeavors.
