Project ReGain
In 2013 as a result of initial funding from
Rhonda Zimmerman, the 12-24 Club started
Project ReGain, a career development
and life skills program for people in
recovery. The goals and objectives of the
program are to help those in recovery
find recovery in all aspects of their lives. It
encourages self-sufficiency, self-esteem and
self-worth through job training, life skills
training, professional image consulting, and
education about core values using the Code
of the West curriculum as a foundation.
The Code of the West was developed
by James P. Owen, bestselling author of
Cowboy Ethics: What Wall Street Can
Learn from the Code of the West. Rob
Johnston, Program Director, for Project
ReGain has worked with interns from the
Occupational Therapy and Social Work
programs at Casper College to provide a
ten week curriculum with skills training
related to values clarification, family
dynamics, time management, personal
budgeting and nutrition as they relate to a
person’s recovery from alcohol or drugs.
are scheduled to graduate in December.
Applications are being accepted for the
class scheduled to begin in February 2014.
Students attend a two hour class once a
week for ten weeks. Participants are also
required to meet with Project ReGain staff
outside of class time to work on goals
specific to the participant.
The Project ReGain program contracted
with Curtiss Kolodney who developed a
series of Recovery Measures which are
a standardized participant profile which
assesses the participant’s recovery capital
and quality of life. These online surveys
are completed at the beginning of the
program and in the tenth week. Areas
of improvement and deficits are noted
related to the participant’s physical health,
social relationships, and environments.
The Recovery Resource Room
The Recovery Resource Room is another
project funded with private dollars to
create a resource library and computer
lab for persons seeking information on
alcohol and substance use addiction.
Class sessions focus on skill assessments,
interest inventories, family and personal
values, goal setting, resume writing,
interviewing skills, job search strategies,
and other areas critical for participant
success. The first class of twelve
individuals graduated in August 2013.
