T he holiday season is a perfect time to enjoy some holiday cheer and there is no better time to enjoy wine, even if it isn’t always your drink of choice. It is a bit stressful to walk into a store and be overwhelmed by all the options out there. Sorting through countless bottles and labels doesn’t have to be a chore, and here are some simple tips to keep in mind when shopping and looking for that perfect bottle of wine. Give Your Guests Some Options Remember when selecting a bottle of wine, you don’t have to go for that expensive or rare find just because the holidays require every moment to be special. Instead of shooting for one expensive wine, options are better. Consider multiple bottles of cheaper wines to offer a selection to your guests: A sparkling wine or rose’ as guests arrive and get situated; a lighter easy drinking white wine to enjoy while cooking and food prep; a red varietal that offers versatile pairing options; and a port or dessert wine to finish the meal, for example, offers some great pairing options. Also, think about offering some dry reds and whites along with some sweeter wines to find a wine for everyone’s palette. Having some options at the table will allow your guests the chance to sip and sample different wines and to engage and share their thoughts on the wines as they sip. Remember to Pair – Always keep in the back of your mind trying to match and pair a wine with the flavors of your food.
