WLM better never ding dong me again! As I read The Character by Louise Meldrum Anderson, a book reflecting the life, times and good humor of her father Jack, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at some of the stories of this well-known Buffalo citizen. Pat said that they have discovered living in Jack Meldrum’s house made them a bit of celebrities in town. “It used to take us a long time to go through the store,” Pat said. “We’d continuously be stopped by people who asked if we were living in Jack Meldrum’s house…and then share a Jack story with us! We had to plan extra time into our shopping trips to account for Jack stories!” The Layhers are working their way through the house, renovating with a spirit of maintaining the historic elements and family vibe of the home, and uncovering surprises along the way. While I was there, Pat found a couple new photo albums that we looked through – George Wolcott’s hunting adventures near Buffalo and an early 1900s trip to Glacier National Park were the focus, and it was so neat to stumble upon a page of history. I have to admit, being the history lover that I am, that if I were Pat and Tami I would probably | home find myself coming up with excuses to stay home all the time... The Layhers’ home in Buffalo is a beautiful and well-loved time capsule. The home’s history is now continuing with the story of the Layhers, and the work they are putting into their home breaths both new life and past energy into its halls. To see the appreciation To purchase The Character and learn about the life and history of Jack Meldrum, contact Louise Anderson for information at 307-684-7907. and attention to detail these two employ is incredibly exciting – I’m hopeful they’ll have me back in a year to see what renovations they’ve tackled – and what interesting stories they’ve unearthed!
