W
e get a lot of questions when we’re out
doing our job – some great ones, some
funny ones, some…that make you tip
your head a little and ponder what to
say in response. For a little change of
pace, we thought we’d use the editor
letter to answer some of the questions and comments that we
hear…
You really travel the entire state with each issue? Yup, we
really do. It’s one of the best parts of the job! I get to see and
experience all corners of Wyoming, four times a year, and
everywhere in between. It’s a pretty awesome thing.
Wow, that’s a lot of driving. Indeed. Thank goodness for
audio books.
Best audio book you’ve heard while on the road? Doris
Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals. History buffs unite! Or
Nicholas Sparks’ Nights in Rodanthe. I bawled as I blew
through Yellowstone. Thank goodness I was alone.
What’s the best part of your job? Meeting so many amazing
people that love Wyoming. Some live here, some have lived
or visited here, some want to visit or live here. The thing
about Wyoming is that it always stays in your heart.
What’s the worst part of your job? The paperwork side of it.
I’m terrible at paperwork.
What’s the craziest thing that’s happened? I believe the
craziest thing would be a feature shoot we did with Keith &
Erin Turbitt where the rumors of haunting in this location
turned out to be very potentially likely. As we finished, we
turned all the lights off, locked up and left…we were outside
for a while, and looked back as we were going to leave –
and all the lights were back on. It was pretty creepy. After
that, it would be having patients recognize me when I’m
doing their ultrasound or assisting with their surgery. I’m still
searching for a witty answer to, “What are you doing here?”
“Conducting research for my next article” doesn’t feel quite
right…
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened? It’s a
toss-up between: #1 A rather persistent wasp bugging my
husband Levi & I on a walk across a busy Casper street
while distributing. Anyone watching probably had a good
laugh. #2 Having the honor of interviewing Governor Matt
Mead on film while on the campaign trail, with my children
arguing in whispers in the background. “Stop It,” “No you
stop it,” and so on. I was snapping my fingers at them off
camera in that mom way of saying “You BOTH stop it –
NOW!” When the cameras quit rolling, Governor Mead very
kindly laughed and said, “It’s OK, I have two.”
Do you take all the pictures too? This question still makes
me scratch my head. NO, most emphatically. I cannot take
pictures. Everyone has red eye when I do. Even inanimate
objects have red eye, which I still can’t figure out. We’re super
blessed to work with amazing photographers – and I am not
one of them.
What kind of a nerd listens to audio books all the time?
THIS kind! But I do have good tunes too. One must sing
loudly & badly while driving. Pat Benatar, baby, flying down
the highways of Wyoming. Loud & proud and completely
alone – or so I hope.
‘Til next time,
