WLM | inspirational woman I had to narrow it down it would be wool and wood. WLM: What is Needle Felting? MS: Needle felting is a labor intensive process of sculpting wool fibers by stabbing them with a barbed needle. Even small projects can take several hours and literally thousands of stabs from start to finish. WLM: What is Wet Felting? MS: Wet Felting is the process of turning layers of wool roving into felt fabric with the use of water, soap and agitation. Repeated agitation and compression causes the fibers to hook together into a single piece of fabric. WLM: What inspires your work? MS: Nothing inspires me more than Nature; anywhere and everywhere you can find its beauty. Folklore of any origin has also served as a great inspiration. WLM: How does Wyoming inspire your work? MS: I grew up in Germany, and my husband served over 20 years in the US Air Force. In those 20 years, we traveled most of Europe and have seen and lived in many wonderful places in the United States. Nothing comes close to the beauty of Wyoming. The most beautiful cathedrals cannot compare to the beauty of a prairie sunrise. A simple walk through the prairie grass is filled with sounds and amazing colors. Exploring the rich history and art of the Wyoming Native American culture has been a privilege and has left an everlasting impression and inspiration. WLM: What is your experience as an artist in Wyoming? MS: I am ever grateful for every gallery owner that allowed my work to be shown, even my outsider art pieces. I have found the Cheyenne Art scene to be embracing all artists of all levels and mediums. I love the involvement of many art organizations, galleries and artists in the local community www.wyolifestyle.com 27
